Offender Employment Strategies
For successful integration into today’s workforce, those with criminal records are in need of the skills, knowledge, and experience of professionals to assist them. These skills include developing insight into their own interests, abilities, and receiving the most updated information about the education and training required to meet the current labor market needs. Emphasis on preparing offenders for the workforce and the increasing data that documents the impact of employment retention has upon recidivism, has increased the demand for qualified and trained professionals to provide specialized employment services.
Members of the Offender Workforce Development Specialist team will provide an overview of several curriculums being taught to professionals to support this effort, including Offender Employment Specialist (OES); Offender Job Retention, and the more comprehensive Offender Workforce Development Specialist (OWDS). Various topics related to the skills, strategies, and resources required to address offender employment specialization will be presented:
•· Job Search Strategy
•· Identifying and Managing Barriers
•· Job Retention
•· Success at the New Job
The workshop will last two hours with an hour at the end for those who would like to attend a tour of the Ramsey County Correctional Facility (RCCF). We will provide you with information about the overall mission of RCCF, with particular attention to those inmate programs that develop and support the skills related to employment readiness.
There are 50 spots available for this workshop.
